Every piece of gear in the Killa Boxing range was put through months of use at our Marrickville gym before it was sold to the public. We train with the same equipment we sell — the gym is where we find out what works and what doesn't.
Here's an honest breakdown of what we've learned about each product in our range.
Killa Air Mitts — Focus Pad Review
Best for: Gym coaches, personal trainers, home pad holders
The Air Mitts are our most used product at the gym. The defining feature is the air chamber in the palm — it absorbs the compression on impact and protects the pad holder's wrist, which is the most common coach injury from daily pad sessions.
What we tested: Four coaches used these daily for 6 months at the Marrickville gym, running 4–6 pad sessions per day. At 6 months, the leather showed normal wear, the stitching was intact, and the air chambers were functioning correctly.
Compared to: Rival, Winning, Cleto Reyes at higher price points, and cheaper synthetic mitts at lower ones. The Killa Air Mitts perform at the level of mid-range Rival pads — better than comparable price-point products, not quite at the level of top-tier Japanese gear.
Verdict: Excellent for regular coaching use. The air cushion is genuinely functional rather than a marketing feature. Shop Killa Air Mitts →
Killa Boxing Gloves Review
Best for: General training, bag work, pad work, light sparring
Our gloves use full-grain cowhide leather over multi-layer foam (EVA base with memory foam outer layer). This combination is the industry standard for gloves in the $120–$180 price range.
What we tested: 6 pairs run through daily bag and pad sessions for 4 months. The leather shows normal surface wear. No stitching failures. The foam has compressed slightly but retained its protective properties — expected for this type of use.
Break-in period: About 2–3 weeks of regular use to fully break in the leather and foam. They're slightly stiff initially — this is normal for genuine leather gloves.
What they're not: These are training gloves, not competition gloves. Competition fighters use a separate pair for fights. If you're buying for recreational training, the distinction doesn't matter.
Sizing note: 12oz fits most adults 65–85kg comfortably. 14oz suits heavier adults. If you're between sizes, go up.
Verdict: Solid training gloves at a fair Australian price point. Shop Boxing Gloves →
Killa Head Guards Review
Best for: Gym sparring, intermediate and advanced training
We stock both open-face (visibility priority) and closed-face (protection priority) head guards. The cowhide leather exterior and high-density inner foam are the same spec as our gloves — consistent quality across the range.
What we tested: Open-face guards used in regular sparring at the gym for 5 months by 4 different fighters.
Key findings:
- The cheekbone guards (on the closed-face model) absorb body shots effectively
- Visibility through the open-face model is close to unobstructed — the guard doesn't significantly affect your field of view
- The adjustable lacing at the rear accommodates a range of head sizes without slipping
- Weight is manageable for full rounds — not so heavy that it fatigues your neck
Verdict: Performs as expected for regular gym sparring. Not a replacement for professional competition head guards, but competitive with comparable-priced gear from larger brands. Shop Head Guards →
Killa Body Shield Review
Best for: Coaches, personal trainers, training partners
Full-torso coverage from collar to hip. The high-density foam absorbs body shots, low kicks, and knee strikes. The harness distributes impact across the holder's torso rather than concentrating it on the arm holding the pad.
What we tested: Used daily in our group boxing classes at Marrickville for 3 months. Coaches found the harness more comfortable than holding a traditional square body pad during combination drills.
Verdict: More useful than a square body pad for full-round pad holding. The harness is what makes it work. Shop Body Shields →
Killa Hand Wraps Review
Best for: All boxers, every session
Our hand wraps are 4.5m cotton — the correct length for a full adult wrap covering knuckles, thumb, and wrist. We've seen too many cheap 2.5m and 3m wraps on the market. The length matters.
What we tested: Multiple pairs machine-washed after every session for 4 months. Colour holds, elasticity retained, seams intact.
Verdict: Wrap your hands every session. Buy three pairs so you always have clean wraps. Shop Hand Wraps →
The Bottom Line
Killa Boxing gear sits in the quality tier that working boxers and coaches actually use for daily training. Not budget vinyl gear that fails in 6 months. Not the premium Japanese exports that cost $400+ for a pair of gloves. The mid-range that gets real use, every day, in real gyms.
Every product we sell has been used at our Marrickville gym. That's the filter.
