Choosing the right size boxing equipment is straightforward once you understand what each size descriptor actually means. This guide covers every product category in the Killa Boxing range.
Boxing Gloves — Size Guide
Boxing gloves are sized in ounces (oz), which refers to the weight of the glove — specifically the padding weight. More padding = heavier glove = more protection.
| Size | Body Weight | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 10oz | Under 65kg | Bag work, pad work for lighter adults and most women |
| 12oz | 65–85kg | Standard training weight for most adults. The most common size purchased. |
| 14oz | 85kg+ | Heavier adults, those wanting extra wrist support |
| 16oz | All weights | Sparring only — the extra padding protects your training partner |
Fit check: With your hand fully fisted inside the glove, your fingers should fill the glove but not press hard into the tip. The fist area should feel snug — not loose, not cramped. The wrist velcro should close fully and not leave gaps.
When in doubt: Go up a weight for bag and pad work (more protection), go to 16oz for sparring.
Head Guards — Size Guide
Head guards in Australia are typically sized Small/Medium/Large based on head circumference:
| Size | Head Circumference |
|---|---|
| Small | 51–54cm |
| Medium | 54–57cm |
| Large | 57–60cm |
| XL | 60–63cm |
Fit check: A properly fitting head guard should sit level on your head without tilting. When you move your head quickly, it should move with you, not lag behind. The chin strap should be snug but not restricting breathing or speech.
For boxers with longer hair: Size up by one — your hair volume adds to the effective head circumference.
Focus Pads — Size Guide
Killa Air Mitts come in one standard size that fits most adult hands. Key fit points:
- The handle should fill your palm without straining the grip
- The pad face should extend 2–4cm beyond your fist when held naturally
- The wrist strap should close snugly without restricting circulation
Hand Wraps — Size Guide
All Killa Boxing hand wraps are 4.5m — the adult standard length. This is the correct length for a full wrap covering knuckles, thumb, and wrist for standard adult hands.
If you have very large hands, a second pair can be started from where the first ends for extra coverage. For children, 2.5–3m wraps are appropriate.
Note: Do not buy 2.5m or 3m wraps for adult use. The shorter length doesn't provide adequate wrist coverage. This is a common error.
Body Shields — Size Guide
Body shields are designed to fit the pad holder, not the boxer. Our shields are one size, designed to fit adults of average build with the harness on the tightest setting for smaller frames and loosened for larger ones.
The shield should cover from the collar to the hip. If the harness doesn't reach comfortably, contact us before purchasing.
Gym Bags — Size Guide
Our gym bags are 35L — sized to carry a full boxing kit (gloves, wraps, head guard, change of clothes, water bottle) comfortably without being unwieldy on the way to the gym.
Separate glove compartment ventilation is included — a feature that matters after any serious training session.
