Best Boxing Gloves for Women Australia — 2026 Complete Guide

Women's boxing glove needs differ from men's in two main ways: hand circumference and wrist dimensions are typically smaller, and the training contexts most women engage in (fitness boxing, pad work, bag work — less sparring) mean different weight priorities. This guide covers what matters when choosing gloves as a woman training in Australia.

Do You Need Women-Specific Gloves?

Some brands produce women-specific boxing gloves with narrower hand compartments and slimmer wrist areas. For women with genuinely small hands, these can improve fit significantly. However, many women train comfortably in standard-fit gloves, particularly models with adjustable wrist closures (velcro hook-and-loop).

The practical test: try both. If a standard 10oz or 12oz glove fits snugly across the knuckles and the velcro sits correctly on the wrist, women-specific sizing provides little additional benefit. If a standard glove gaps at the knuckle area or the wrist wrap bunches, a narrower fit is worth seeking.

Weight Recommendations for Women

10oz — Not Recommended for Training

10oz gloves are competition weight. The padding is minimal relative to bag work impact. Many beginner women are sold 10oz gloves as "the right size for women" — this is incorrect and increases injury risk. 10oz is for the ring, not for bag work or pad work training.

12oz — Light Training, Fitness Classes

Suitable for lighter bag work and fitness boxing classes where intensity is moderate. The padding is adequate for pad work and light bag sessions. Not recommended for extended heavy bag rounds.

14oz — Best General Training Weight

For most women doing regular bag work, pad work, and technique training, 14oz provides the best balance of protection and hand fatigue management. Sufficient padding for sustained training sessions.

16oz — Sparring Only

Required for any sparring. The larger surface area and additional padding protect both wearer and partner. If sparring is part of training, 16oz is non-negotiable.

Key Features for Women

Velcro Closure

Velcro (hook-and-loop) closures are easiest to put on and remove alone, which matters when training without a partner to help with laces. Nearly all training gloves use velcro — prioritise wrist strap width (wider = more stable wrist support).

Wrist Support

Women statistically have slightly higher rates of wrist injury in boxing training relative to men — partly anatomical, partly because lighter gloves are often prescribed that offer less support. Look for gloves with extended wrist straps (8cm or wider).

Odour Management

Genuine leather and high-quality synthetic leather both outperform cheaper materials on odour. The material quality of the interior lining matters — a moisture-wicking interior extends glove life significantly.

Killa Boxing Gloves

The Killa Elite Pro Boxing Gloves are available in 10oz, 12oz, 14oz, and 16oz and fit women's hands well — the wrist strap provides excellent support and the inner lining manages moisture effectively. Recommended size for most women: 12oz or 14oz depending on training intensity.
